And Then The Post Came

I decided to let Xmas and New Year go by before embarking on what I hoped would be my final NPower quest.

I tried to register my account on their website, and although it seemed to accept my details, it wouldn’t let me log in.

Never mind, I’d wait for the written confirmation I had been promised and then try again. It arrived at the beginning of January, as ever it was in two separate envelopes (I’ll get that second room done yet!!) and all seemed well, but I still couldn’t log in.

A quick phone call to their help desk soon put that right, and I felt like we were within touching distance of getting things sorted. And then the post came.

It consisted of two letters. One was welcoming me onto my new tariff and telling me not to worry as I need take no further action. A bit late for that don’t you think?

The second was a rather large gas bill, and it was using the wrong account number again! Hang on, this was supposed to have been sorted and incorporated in the new Direct Debit on the correct account number over a week ago.

Yet another phone call disabused me of that notion. It was the electric ‘arrears’ that were included in the Direct Debit not the gas. As to why they were using the wrong account number again, well that was anyone’s guess.

I strongly object to the term ‘arrears’ in this situation as we’ve been trying to pay for the gas since last May, and have been paying the electric quarterly for nearly a year, but I didn’t feel strong enough to argue.

I provided up to date meter readings for gas and electric and managed to get the large gas bill reduced by £40, but it was still over £400. Now I had to choose whether to pay in a lump sum or have it added to my Direct Debit.

I asked for time to think it over, and the young man said that was OK as the revised bill would take up to 10 days to arrive. In actual fact I really needed to lie down in a darkened room.

So much for managing my account online. I was already working out if I had enough letters for that second room!

But at least things were almost sorted again. And then the post came!!

Unusually this letter had traveled alone. It was a gas bill reminder with the wrong account number for £35.37. Give me strength!!
