The Dream Team

I’m fed up with Brexit, just like 99% of the British public and probably the rest of the world too. Do you remember what I wrote back in June 2016 Here’s the relevant bit.

“However, there is no magic switch and when I think of all the money and time that would be spent/wasted on the subsequent battle to disentangle ourselves, it makes me shudder.”

Surely I can’t have been the only one who could see this coming?

When I say I’m ‘fed up’ with Brexit I actually mean I’m f****d off with it, or more accurately with the politicians who are (supposedly) trying to implement it.

And then, just when you think it can’t get any worse, up pops Nigel Farage launching his new Brexit Party! I watched part of the ‘launch’ on TV and couldn’t help thinking his new hair cut made him look a little bit like Hitler, a fact that would be lost on Crystal Palace goal keeper Wayne Hennessey! (But that’s a story for another day.)

If that isn’t bad enough, who’s joined him? Why Ann Widdecombe of course. (I met her once.)

So I got to thinking, if Nigel can launch a new political party, why can’t I? To which the correct answer is ‘how long have you got?’! but I thought it might be fun to have a go all the same.

It didn’t take me long to pick my ‘cabinet’ and guess what? They’re all women, taken from all walks of life, political persuasions and differing Brexit views.

So, in no particular order, here they are:-

Jess Phillips and Lisa Nandy Labour MP’s for Birmingham Yardley and Wigan respectively. Straight talking women in touch with the needs of their constituents.

Heidi Allen ex Conservative MP representing South Cambridgeshire and now founder member and interim leader of the newly formed British Independent Group. Ex business woman who is much more in tune with her constituents than most Tory MP’s.

Emily Maitlis, Laura Kuenssberg and Jo Coburn, BBC journalists, presenters, who know a thing or two about British politics and have the ability to make even Brexit interesting.

Caroline Lucas Green Party MP for Brighton Pavilion. She could make sure our ‘green’ credentials were in good working order.

Anita Rani BBC TV and radio presenter, most notably for ‘Countryfile’ a more familiar face to help with our ‘green’ policies.

Sandi Toksvig OBE writer, broadcaster, actor and producer. Co-founder of the Women’s Equality Party in 2015. Highly intelligent, articulate and funny.

Emma Thompson DBE actress, screenwriter, activist, author, and comedian. Once again highly intelligent, articulate and funny.

Finally Steph McGovern, journalist and television presenter. She studied maths, physics, design technology and business studies and at the age of 19 was awarded ‘Young Engineer for Britain’.
A proud Teeside lass with a winning personality and an easy way of talking to people, she would help keep us grounded and I bet she would be a right laugh after a few beers at the end of the day. Everyone needs a Steph McGovern in their lives.

So there we are. Want Brexit sorted? (or anything else for that matter) Call in my dream team.
