Spring 2018

Well it’s been a long time coming but at last Spring has returned to ‘Grassy Bottom’. My favourite time of year by far and this is why.
I love bright colours and you can’t get much brighter than my Spring bulb collections.
The drive is pretty as a picture
a far cry from when the digger arrived even when the work was almost complete I had no idea how it would turn out.
It is full of vibrant reds
and more subtle shades
sometimes planted together, just as I like them!
What can lift your spirits more than a few tulips?
Answer. A few more tulips!
And as you can see Adrian’s Wall doesn’t disappoint with red and yellow ones
end to end.
There are also lilac and pale yellow ones which tend to get a little overwhelmed, along with drumstick primulas.
Still to come are Aquilegia, Iris, Monarda, Japanese Anemones and of course ‘Lucifer’ and ‘Solomon’s Seal’. I’ve also just added 17 cowslips to ensure yet more colour next year.
Even the flowering currant that I dug up and heeled in as a temporary measure 2 years ago seems happy to stay where it is helping to give dappled shade to the wood anemones beneath.
In short the garden is coming to life.
Spring might have been a long time coming, but I think it was worth the wait.
However, since I took these photos it’s disappeared again!!
