I Had A Dream

In the course of my gardening life I’ve often dreamed about digging up something exciting. (For ‘exciting’ read very old and obscenely valuable!) Well I was never going to get a better opportunity than this, given the scale of the ‘digging up’ that’s gone on here over the last 6 months.

A few weeks ago my most exciting find had been the stone marble, and actually it was Peter who found that.

Then a couple of days ago, whilst putting the finishing touches to the new flower bed along the side of the drive, I found a little ‘treasure’ of my own.

It is a small medal, made out of some base metal and sprayed with something ‘gold’. According to the inscription it was awarded to the runner-up of the 100yds sprint at R.A.F Swanton Morley.

Sadly it doesn’t name the recipient or say what year it was awarded, but R.A.F Swanton Morley, which is in Norfolk, was operational from the second World War until 1995.

Here is a picture of the medal leaning against an old tennis ball (for scale)

Now I realise that this find is neither old nor valuable, but it is quite interesting, don’t you think?

Meanwhile the replacement shed doors were delivered on Monday. I’ve spent all week giving them several coats of preservative, primer, undercoat and outdoor paint.

Peter lent a hand with a coat of primer.

Hopefully they should be fitted tomorrow.
