Best Days Of Our Lives

I’m sure we’ve all been told how our school days are the ‘best days of our lives’, and whilst that statement could be open to some debate, I’m sure we all agree that at some point during those ‘best days’ we have asked ourselves the question ‘when will I ever need to use this – – – ?’ (insert subject of choice)

My particular ‘subject of choice’ was trigonometry, specifically sin, cos and tan, (Sine, Cosine and Tangent) though I expect I also felt the same about congruent triangles if I could actually remember that they existed 45+ years later!

Peter was the same.

‘When in heaven’s name will I need to know about congruent triangles?’ he asked as a 13 year old boy. Well, 50 years later he’s just found out!

The provisional plans for the roof trusses have arrived and as you can see a degree in trigonometry would be helpful, sadly we’ve both only got ‘O’ level GCE maths and I’ve forgotten most of mine.

The observant among you may have realised this is not a straightforward roof, if all goes well it will be hipped with a catslide at the back.

The thing is you don’t get to do this twice, so we need to make sure the plans are accurate and do-able, so on Saturday night Peter summoned up his inner school boy and came to the conclusion that, after a few tweaks, it would be exactly what was required.

So there we are, you never know when these old nuggets of education will come in handy, but you do need a good memory.
