The Destruction Resumes
Posted By Judith on 30th March 2016
Apart from the obvious reasons of providing protection for the car and secure storage for all our gardening and DIY ‘stuff’, a major reason for this garden project was to get rid of the 50+ years of old concrete paths which had been added to and patched up over the years by many well meaning ‘handymen’. Unfortunately the result of this ‘TLC’ meant that the paths were ugly, broken and in parts downright dangerous.
Although lots of this old stuff has already been removed (including the infamous ‘gravestones and drainpipe’) a lot of it still remains.
Outside the front and back doors, to minimise treading mud into the house, (that worked!!) and round the back where the compost bins were has remained untouched until now.
Whilst we wait for the roof trusses to be delivered it seems like the way forward, hence the arrival of the micro-digger yesterday lunchtime.
A micro-digger, as the name suggests, is just like any other digger only much smaller, meaning it can get into the places that it’s larger relatives can’t and that’s exactly what we needed to dig out the concrete path along the front and side of the house, as you can see here.
Adrian was on his own yesterday so Peter lent a hand wielding the sledge hammer.
Today continued in much the same vein, dirty, muddy, destruction, which after several weeks of feeling like we were at last beginning to put things back together has been a bit of a shock to the system.
So I’ll move on to a completely unrelated topic.
Regular readers will be aware of our long running battle with NPower our gas/electricity supplier. Don’t worry I’m not going off on one again except to say that at long last we’ve decided to sack them.
We’ve just had a letter telling us that SSE, our new supplier, will be taking over our power supply from April 1st. I do hope that the date isn’t a portent of whats to come!!
