Blue Bricks And A Shaggy Dog Story

After 2 days of destruction it was nice to get back to ‘putting things back together’ on Thursday and Friday, specifically putting the final course of ‘blue’ bricks along the top of the long retaining wall.

When it’s complete it will stretch from the font garden right along the side finishing up by the vegetable garden and garage, broken only by 2 sets of steps. It’s going to take a lot of ‘blue’ bricks as they are laid on their side at right-angles to the rest of the wall.

Here Peter and Adrian discuss the exact dimensions for the curves for the main set of steps

whilst here you get the best idea of how the new bricks we chose, as far as possible, match the existing building.

Hopefully the roof trusses will arrive this week, then things really will begin to take shape.

Yesterday we found a golden retriever.

That’s not a sentence you get to say very often. Perhaps it would be more accurate to say she found us, appearing as she did out of nowhere, as we sat in the garden enjoying the afternoon sun.

Large and friendly, with a collar, but clearly disorientated, she kept running into the road. Fearing the worst, Peter hung on to her collar and I went knocking on doors. We knew she didn’t belong to our near neighbours, but perhaps they were dog sitting or had visitors.

It turned out to be the latter, she was visiting one of the houses opposite. Everyone was very relieved when she was returned safely. It reminded me of the time we found ‘Precious’, a ‘shaggy cat’ story which also turned out well.

I do like a happy ending.
