Sunflower On Steroids
Posted By Judith on 18th August 2016
Earlier in the year I sowed 20 ‘Munchkin’ sunflower seeds. Germination was poor but eventually I planted 14 small plants into the garden. As previously reported some did better than others.
Of the 14 I planted only 7 survived the attentions of the local snails.
‘Munchkins’ are supposed to grow to about 2′ as you can see here,
but it would seem that one of them hadn’t read the brief, because despite coming from the same packet he has grown to about 5′ and must have at least 20 flower heads.
Obviously if I’d known he was going to grow to that size I would have planted him somewhere more sensible, but what can you do?
Whatever the size, you’ve got to love a sunflower.
