Hilaire Belloc

“Hilaire Belloc?” I hear you cry. “What has an early 20th century writer and historian got to do with ‘Grassy Bottom?” A fair question in the circumstances and I do admit the link is rather tenuous.

You may be familiar with his poem ‘Jim’. The story of a little boy who got eaten by a lion. (I don’t know if this was written before or after the rather more ‘working class’ version ‘The Lion and Albert’ by Marriott Edgar) however, I digress.

It’s the last few lines of ‘Jim’ that are pertinent here.

“And always keep a-hold of Nurse
For fear of finding something worse.”

The question is, do those words also apply to builders.

Well, we’re about to find out as, at last, we are ready to embark on the improvements to the garden, building garage, shed, greenhouse etc.

We’ve rung Adrian (the builder who did the house renovations) and we await his arrival.
