Back To The Past

Posted By on 24th October 2015

There’s been a lot of light-hearted coverage in the news this week about time travel, thanks to the 1980’s sci-fi film ‘Back to the Future II’, in which the characters travel forward in time 30 years to the 21st October 2015.

Not that looking 30 years into the future is a particularly good idea, not at my age at least, but what if you could go back in time?

I’m not talking about going back to any point in all of history, that’s too big, just back within your own life time.

Where would you go and why?

The most obvious answers would be to re-connect with some loved ones who are no longer with us, or perhaps friends we have lost touch with over the years.

A great temptation might be to go back to ‘right a wrong’, but as all good ‘Dr Who’ fans know, you can’t travel back in time and meddle in the past to change the future.

So, given the obvious examples and restrictions above, where would you go and why?

I’d go to my grandma’s kitchen cupboard. (I bet you didn’t see that coming!!)

As a small child I remember loving it’s smell, much to the bemusement of my mum and grandma. I have no idea what it smelt of or why I liked it, I just did.

If I could go back and smell it again, would I still like it? Perhaps, as an adult, I would know what it smelt of, but that poses another question.

Would you go back as you are now, or would you want to be as you were then?

I think my grandma might be alarmed to find, on entering her kitchen, a 60 something stranger with her head in the cupboard!!

Isn’t it funny what ridiculous things stay with you over the years and then pop into your head unexpectedly.

Can you tell the gardening season is over and I’m between decorating jobs!
