Who Knew?

Who knew there were so many different kinds of bricks? Who knew it would take so long to find suitable ones for the project? Certainly not us.

I can’t believe how many different colour, size and texture combinations there are, and they all have fancy names too. What’s more, how they look in brochures and on websites bears no resemblance to how they look in real life.

That’s why, having had to send the original consignment of 2,000 back to the builders yard, we are having to get lots of samples so as not to make the same mistake twice.

The way things are going I will shortly be able to build Leonard his very own ‘des res’ with all the ‘freebies’ we have collected, but as ever he is remaining cool about the whole thing, even when I asked him to select his favourite.

He just washed his face, which is a vast improvement on what he was washing a few minutes earlier!

Meanwhile, I thought I might take the opportunity, during this lull in the proceedings, to check how some of my plants that are still in pots have over-wintered, and I have to say initial impressions are good.

The hemerocallis ‘Sammy Russell’ is showing some shoots and a small peony I dug out by mistake at the end of last year which looked like a lost cause is also producing a small bud. I just hope it’s larger relations who are still in their original positions, but perilously close to the building work, will fare as well.

So there we are. I hope the next time I write it will be good news about bricks.
