One Year

Two of Peter’s favourite sayings were, “Every day’s a school day” and “It won’t always be dark at 7”. Neither of us realised just how prophetic those words would turn out to be.

I’ve learnt a lot in the last year. Mostly about myself, but also about other people, as well as everyday things like burst pipes, website hosting and smoke alarms. A steep learning curve at times.

Also, it would have been so easy to give up. Roll-over, curl-up and disappear into oblivion, just another lonely pensioner statistic. Indeed in the depths of January when I was really ill, I couldn’t imagine ever being fit again, let alone happy, but the fact is I am fit again and I am happy, very happy in fact.

Another of Peter’s favourite sayings was something to the effect of, ‘when life knocks you down, get up, wipe your mouth and try again’ and that is basically what I’ve been trying to do.

So 12 months on my message is simple.

Face every set-back head on, treat it as an opportunity to learn and grow, but most of all never, ever give up hope,

and remember,

Every day is a school day and it isn’t always dark at 7.
