Little Things

It is said that ‘little things please little minds’ and this may well be true, but it is also true that the ‘devil’s in the detail’.

When you consider all the upheaval and mayhem there has been here over the last few months, and what a spectacular transformation has taken place, it is strange that one of my favourite things in the whole garden is a small plastic grate about 6″ square.

Here it is.

grate

What is it that I find so appealing? Well it’s the level of the gravel.

From the front of the house right along ‘Adrian’s Wall’ to the garage at the back the gravel forms a beautifully straight line about ½” below the blue bricks, but when it reaches the grate it slopes down encouraging any standing water to run into the drain.

A small detail I know, but one that pleases this ‘little mind’.

Speaking of small things here’s an update on the stone marble we found a few weeks ago. I still don’t know what it was originally used for, but I can tell you what it is used for now.

You know that moment when your vacuum cleaner looses suction because the flexible hose has got blocked?

Well, simply disconnect the hose, pop the stone marble in at one end, give it a good shake and wait for it to appear out of the other end along with offending blockage. Job done.

I should get out more.
