What Went Wrong? This Went Wrong

After a successful day collecting the new car from Cambridge it was the following morning that we discovered the problem. One of the neighbourhood ‘moggies’ had decided the ‘soft-top’ was a snug place to spend the night.

Paw prints all across the bonnet, boot and windscreen were a recipe for scratches on the new paintwork and a residue of light coloured fur on the roof lead us to believe the prime suspect was a ginger and white tom cat who lives locally.

The only ‘good’ thing about it was that at least it let Poppy and Macbeth off the hook.

I’m ashamed to say that we’d allowed the ‘old’ car to get so dirty over the winter, we wouldn’t have noticed if Shere Khan had been sleeping on it, but a ‘box-fresh’ model showed every mark and every hair.

As if to add insult to injury, I believe the culprit to be the same ginger tom cat who finally forced Poppy out of her home at the end of last year!

Was it a ‘one-off’ event? Sadly not as each new day dawned to reveal further evidence of a cat having spent the night on the Mazda’s roof (I should be able to think of some amusing Tennessee Williams observation here but I can’t) and so for the second time in 9 months I found myself looking for cat repellent, and as we know it didn’t end well the first time.

That earlier attempt clearly hadn’t worked, so I bought a different brand and tested it on the garden bench. It didn’t work either!

The fact is, even if our previous attempts had worked, we didn’t really want to be spraying unknown substances onto the paintwork and soft-top of a new car and treating only the surrounding area seemed to make success even more unlikely.

Another method had to be found.
