Three Little Words

Now, before you start worrying that I’ve gone all ‘Mills & Boon’ in my old age, the three little words in question are, curtains, shelves and lino. Five syllables, nineteen characters, three little words that are still standing between us and completion of the dining/kitchen.

We bought the curtains back in May. They just want turning up to fit the windows, a job I’m not looking forward to. I don’t feel it would be wise to start on them until the shelves are fitted in the kitchen bit, because that will involve drilling holes in the wall, which means more dust.

The shelves were ordered, along with the kitchen cabinets on 22nd January, they were delivered damaged on 24th April and finally delivered in good order on 29th May. Sadly they have spent the last 3 months leaning up against a wall waiting for Peter to work out his strategy.

The lino for the kitchen is not a problem as such, we’ve found exactly what we want on-line, at a fraction of the price we’d have to pay in a shop. (Though we did visit one showroom so we could check out the quality.)

No, the problem with the lino is finding someone to fit it. Most carpet fitters are attached to shops, finding an independent one who will come to Binbrook or even return our call is proving much harder than expected.

Years ago Peter would have done the job himself, but he didn’t have bad knees then.

So here we are, 18 months down the line and three little words are stopping us from completing the biggest room in the house.
