In The Beginning

We’ve always liked a ‘project’ and all our lives have fancied the idea of buying a place and doing it up. Indeed as far back as the early 1970’s we almost bought a derelict farmhouse on the bleak moors above Hebden Bridge.

Situated up an unmade track with no windows, floors or utilities of any kind, Cold Weatherhouse Farm would have been a project and a half. But as with most dreams life got in the way, and so we never bought the farm or anywhere like it.

Fast forward 40 years to February 2014. After months of searching we bought ‘Grassy Bottom’, an unusual 1930’s bungalow, set in the beautiful Lincolnshire Wolds and in need of modernisation.

Whether 60 years of age is actually the right time to be taking on such a project is debatable, but on the ‘plus’ side we might be older but we should be wiser, and we have the money in the bank too.

Added to that we find ourselves in rented accommodation until the end of March, so it would seem like an ideal opportunity to get the building work done before we move in. In other words a chance to put 40 years experience of house ownership into practice, and to fulfill a lifelong ambition.

So, in the best ‘Watch with Mother’ tradition, are you sitting comfortably?
